HORIZON FRANKENSTEIN (REPAINTED IN 2025)

This was the first "pro" model I saw in person in the early ninties. It was at a modeling expo in Boston, and I was stunned at the likeness.
But it was $100! I thought that was insane! About six months later, I bought one anyway....
Both the kit and this J.L. Crinon base had been gathering dust in the closet.
The kit had been played with by my kids and had broken into pieces many times.
I finally took on the challenge of making them both look great again.
Luckily the face, arms and hands didn't need painting, because this was also the first time I painted a face that I was really proud of!
J.L. Crinon bases are unbelievably cool; they're still available on eBay as of 2025.
Love the dead eyes!
I can't remember where the nameplate came from, but it really makes the base "pop".
I could paint these bases for days and days...
THE MONSTER (REPAINTED IN 2020)

Sculpted by Adam Dougherty for KitKong Mansion -this is a BIG model!
One of my favorite models, I bought and built him in 2011.
In hindsite I thought I didn't do a very good job on the face and hands - they were a cartoonish green.
I re-painted them in 2020 and I think it looks much better now.
I love the way this figure is posed - the monster just hulks into the room... (if "hulk" can be used as a verb...)
The new paint job is on the top, the old one on the bottom. To paraphrase Alfred Hitchcock, the old one was done by a gifted amatuer; the new one was done by a seasoned professional!
Frankenstein and Fritz

After building the Bride of Frankenstein 4-figure set (see below), I realized that I desperately needed a really good Yagher sculpt of the 1931 monster,
and this one came up on eBay, so I built this dio using him and the Fritz that I already had.

I'll be using him in a huge diorama, so I didn't need the base. I also needed a torch instead of a whip, so I made one out of Alves.
Let this be a lesson - you pay someone minimum wage, they don't take pride in their work. They mistakenly grab the abnormal brain, etc.....
